Frequently Asked Questions About Wraparound/BHRS Services
Although parents may have a variety of questions while their child is involved in Wraparound/Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services (BHRS), here are a few of the most commonly asked. If you have questions that are not listed below, please ask! Call us at (412) 831-1223.
Q: Since Wraparound/BHRS is short-term in nature, what happens if my child has not reached the treatment goals outlined in their treatment plan by the end of the service authorization period?
A: Your child's treatment team has the ongoing responsibility to monitor your child's progress. At about 30 days to 45 days before the end of your child's service period, the Interagency Treatment Team will meet to address this issue.
Q: Am I required to receive all the services recommended as medically necessary by my child's psychological evaluation and the treatment team?
A: Wraparound/BHRS services are not mandated services. Your decision to receive services are totally voluntary on your part. However, if services are recommended that you feel are not necessary, you may decline those services through the treatment team process.
Q: Do I need to be present while Wraparound/BHRS services are being provided to my child?
A: Yes... unless services are being provided in an environment where your presence is not required by the treatment team i.e. school, community based recreational/social activity. If you are unable to be present another responsible adult in your family or extended family may serve in your absence.
Q: What if I am not clear about the treatment goals for my child or my role in the treatment of my child?
A: You can do a number of things. First: contact and meet with the lead clinician of the team - your Behavior Specialist Consultant. Second: if for some reason that person is unavailable, contact the Administrator who provides oversight to the services you receive through Southwestern Human Services. Remember! You are a critical member of your child's team and must have a working understanding of the treatment goals and your role.
Q: What if I'm not satisfied with the services that my child is receiving?
A: Don't keep team to yourself. Contact Southwestern Human Services to discuss your concerns with the Administrator overseeing the services to your child and family. If your concerns cannot be solved at that level, a treatment team meeting will be to review and discuss your concerns.
Q: What can't the Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS) do while providing services to my child?
A: First you must be clear about what is the TSS's role. We suggest that you do one of a number of things. Ask the TSS, consult with the Behavior Specialist Consultant (BSC) or call the Administrator overseeing your child's case. It is important to know what the TSS service does not include. Here are just a few examples:
- TSS cannot serve the role of a "Babysitter" for the child or their siblings.
- TSS are not responsible for the physical care of the child, unless otherwise specified in the child's treatment plan.
- TSS cannot be responsible to provide transportation services to child or family.
- TSS cannot provide "any other" therapeutic service that is not specified in the child's treatment plan or are outside the scope of their job responsibilities, i.e. marital counseling, education tutoring, speech therapy, physical therapy, etc.
Q: What if I feel that my child's treatment plan should be changed?
A: You can recommend additions or deletion to your child's plan at any time during the treatment process. Consult with the Behavior Specialist Consultant. A team meeting can be arranged to make the necessary and appropriate changes.
Q: Can I discontinue services at any time?
A: Yes. However, since the team has your child's best interest at hand, it would be appropriate to discuss your decision with your team members so that if other services are more appropriate for your child the team can help you access those services.
Q: What is the role of the Managed Care Company in my child's treatment?
A: Simply stated, the managed care company (MCO) approves payment and oversees Wraparound services provided to your child. The MCO will have representative assigned to your child's case. They're available to answer specific questions you may have, Call your case manager or Southwestern Human Services for additional assistance.
Q: If I would need to cancel Wraparound/BHRS services on a particular day, what should I do?
A: Contact our office at (412) 831-1223 or if you know in advance, simply let the TSS, BSC or MT know.
Q: When the TSS is in my home at meal time, am I responsible to invite them to eat with us?
A: No. It is not your responsibility to provide meals to staff, nor do staff expect it.
Q: Why do I have to sign forms each day of service?
A: By signing the forms you are simply acknowledging that services were provided that day. Staff are required to obtain your signature for each date of service.
